Common questions about pub tournaments
Does it cost anything?
Basic is completely free — up to 10 participants and 1 active tournament is enough for pub night. For larger events (15+ players, multiple boards, more formats) PRO starts at €4.99/month, cancellable monthly.
How many players work well?
8, 12, 16 players are the sweet spot for pub tournaments: group stage runs in 1 hour, knockout another 45 minutes. With 24+ players you need at least 3 boards, otherwise it drags.
How long does a 12-player tournament take?
With 2 boards and best-of-3 legs: roughly 2 hours total (group stage 1:15h, knockout 0:45h). With 3 boards under 1:30h. Drink breaks are factored in.
How many dartboards are supported?
Basic 2 boards, PRO and PREMIUM unlimited. SmartDart distributes ongoing matches automatically so no player is ever scheduled on two boards simultaneously.
Can guests watch without playing?
Yes — every guest scans the spectator QR and sees on their phone: live bracket, ongoing matches with current score, tournament stats. No account, no signup.
How do players reach their match overview?
Each player gets their own QR code (available individually in the admin dashboard) or a 5-character code. Scan once and they land on their player view with their matches.
What if a player drops out or doesn't show up?
The admin can set the match score manually in the dashboard (e.g. 3:0 for the player who showed up). The bracket updates automatically after that.
What do I need at the pub?
1× laptop/tablet at the projector for display, players and guests use their own phones. Wi-Fi is a must — 3G technically works, but in a busy pub Wi-Fi is more stable.
Isn't an Excel template enough for a pub tournament?
For 4-6 players on a single board, sure, Excel is fine. As soon as you want 12+ players, group stage, knockout bracket and a live table — all visible to your guests on a projector — Excel becomes painful. SmartDart generates all the fixtures in seconds, shows the live bracket on the big screen and lets players score on their own phones.
How do I create a darts tournament schedule for our pub?
Enter the player list (or let players join via QR code), pick a format (knockout is classic for the pub, groups + knockout for bigger fields), set best-of-legs, hit start. All the fixtures are generated in under a minute — no more brackets scribbled on beer mats.
How are the fixtures generated automatically?
For pure knockout SmartDart distributes 8/16/32 slots fairly (with byes if needed), for groups + knockout it draws into groups (usually 3-5 players, up to 16 groups) and seeds automatically into the knockout. With multiple boards the matches are spread out so no player ever plays twice at once — no idle waits.
What else SmartDart can do
Beyond Quick Match and Training, SmartDart is a complete darts platform for pubs, clubs and leagues.
