Three Training Modes — One Goal

Each mode trains a different aspect of your dart game. Combine them for maximum progress.

Checkout Trainer

Practice finishes in 3 difficulty levels (Beginner, Advanced, Pro). The app throws random scores at you, you throw at the board and track how often you hit on the first / second / third dart.

Open Checkout Trainer

121 Dart

The classic dart training game: start at 121 points, try to check out in 9 darts, level up step by step to 170. Perfect for pressure situations and real match feel.

Play 121 Dart

Quick Match 1v1

Warm up or play against a friend right away: 501 or 301, best of or first to legs, with live scoring and checkout suggestions. Ideal before you hit serious training.

How to Improve Your Dart Average

Effective dart training isn't just throwing darts — it's structured, measured and pressure-tested. These four principles make the difference.

Repetition in the same score range

Double training with random variety doesn't help much. Stay in one score range (e.g. 40–60) until your hit rate climbs, then go higher. SmartDart shows your hit percentage per score.

Simulate pressure with 121 Dart

Training under pressure beats training without pressure. 121 Dart simulates finish situations: you MUST check out, otherwise you fall back. That trains stable throws when it counts.

Track progress, don't feel it

Perceived progress is deceiving. Numbers aren't. SmartDart tracks your hit rate per score, your average and your longest streak — so you know if you're actually getting better.

Practice weak finishes disproportionately

Most players have 3–4 numbers they hit reliably — and 16 they botch. Identify your weak doubles (SmartDart shows them) and practice those way more than the rest.

What is 121 Dart?

121 Dart is one of the most classic dart training games. You start at 121 points and have 9 darts (3 rounds) to check out. If you succeed, you level up and start at the next score — 122, 123, 124 and so on up to 170. If you fail, you stay on the level.

The game trains everything at once: high scores at the start, setup darts, clean finishes, and the mental pressure to do it in 9 darts. Holding a 3-dart average of 80+ is much harder here than in regular 501 matches, because every bad leg is punished immediately.

Dart Training FAQ

Yes, all three training modes (Checkout Trainer, 121 Dart, Quick Match) are permanently free — no limits, no ads, no tracking. You need neither account nor payment info.

No. You can start right away. With a free account your training statistics are saved across sessions — for long-term progress comparison.

Place your phone or tablet within reach next to the board. Throw your 3 darts at the board, then enter in the browser what you hit (as total score or individual darts). SmartDart counts and tracks automatically.

Especially for beginners. Checkout Trainer has a Beginner mode with low scores (e.g. 20, 40, 60) — so you learn the key doubles without frustrating 170-finishes. After a few weeks you'll see clear progress.

Beginner (easy finishes up to ~80), Advanced (medium finishes 80–120) and Pro (hard finishes 120–170 incl. setup darts). You can switch any time.

The app needs internet on the first load. Once loaded, training works mostly offline — only saving stats to your account needs a connection again.

Realistic: with 20–30 minutes of training per day you'll play noticeably more stably after 4–6 weeks. SmartDart helps you above all to train *structured* — the biggest failure mode in self-training.
