Basic is completely free — up to 10 participants and 1 active tournament is enough for pub night. For larger events (15+ players, multiple boards, more formats) PRO starts at €4.99/month, cancellable monthly.

8, 12, 16 players are the sweet spot for pub tournaments: group stage runs in 1 hour, knockout another 45 minutes. With 24+ players you need at least 3 boards, otherwise it drags.

With 2 boards and best-of-3 legs: roughly 2 hours total (group stage 1:15h, knockout 0:45h). With 3 boards under 1:30h. Drink breaks are factored in.

Yes — every guest scans the spectator QR and sees on their phone: live bracket, ongoing matches with current score, tournament stats. No account, no signup.

Each player gets their own QR code (available individually in the admin dashboard) or a 5-character code. Scan once → lands on player view with their matches.

The admin can set the match score manually in the dashboard (e.g. 3:0 for the player who showed up). The bracket updates automatically after that.

1× laptop/tablet at the projector for display, players and guests use their own phones. WLAN is mandatory — 3G technically works, but with a busy pub WLAN is more stable.

For 4-6 players on a single board, sure, Excel is fine. As soon as you want 12+ players, group stage, knockout bracket and a live table — all visible to your guests on a projector — Excel becomes painful. SmartDart generates the full schedule in seconds, shows the live bracket on the big screen and lets players score on their own phones.

For pure knockout SmartDart distributes 8/16/32 slots fairly (with byes if needed), for groups + knockout it draws into groups of 3-5 and seeds automatically into the knockout. With multiple boards the matches are spread out so no player ever plays twice at once — no idle waits.
